Legacy Configuration Info

History

In late 2013 we streamlined our service to be more robust in a variety of ways. Switching to our newer setup required changing the IPs we were using for delivering filtered mail. Since some users had configured their mail server (or firewall) to restrict inbound IP addresses for email delivery we could not safely change the IPs we were sending from. We sent announcements and posted links in our control panel to allow customers to migrate to the new setup but not everyone made the switch. In 2015 we added a migration option directly to our Delivery Mail Host page. This document is here to provide some guidance for those that wish to migrate to our newer setup.

How do I safely switch to the streamlined setup?

That depends on your circumstances:

Shared mail host: If you are using a shared hosting provider for your email then it should be perfectly safe to migrate to our new setup. To do so, go to the Delivery Mail Host page in the SpamHero control panel and change your Mail Host Type to Shared mail host and then click the Update Mail Host button.

Dedicated mail host: If you have a dedicated mail server then you will need to confirm that your mail server(s) are able to receive mail from our current list of IPs. Or, if you are sure that have not configured your mail server (or firewall) to restrict inbound IP addresses for email delivery then it should be safe to migrate to the new setup. To do so, go to the Delivery Mail Host page in the SpamHero control panel and change your Mail Host Type to Dedicated mail host and then click the Update Mail Host button. For those that were restricting email delivery by IPs, please do not remove the old SpamHero IP addresses from your firewall until you have confirmed that all of your mail is being delivered from the new IP addresses. If you want to be safe you should continue to allow the legacy IP addresses for 14 days after switching to the streamlined setup.

Once you have switched away from the legacy configuration, the option will disappear from the Delivery Mail Host page. Do not switch to the new setup until you have confirmed that you are ready. Feel free to contact us if you are unsure and would like some guidance.
