SpamHero is a great solution for customers using Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite) that want better spam filtering.

For best results, please complete the following steps to set up SpamHero with Google Workspace:

Step 1: Configure your MX Records

Update your domain's MX records as instructed in the SpamHero setup instructions that were emailed to you when you signed up.

Step 2: Configure your SpamHero delivery mail host settings

On the Delivery Mail Host page, enter the following mail server names in the Mail host(s) box (depending on the year you signed up for Google Workspace):

Step 3: Select the proper mail host type

Before leaving the Delivery Mail Host page, select this option:

And then click on the "View IP addresses" link and save the IPs listed there for the next step.

Step 4: Configure SpamHero as your inbound gateway in Google Workspace

To do this, follow the instructions here:

Don't skip the above step! While it may appear that things are working without this step, Google Workspace will reject emails from senders with strict DMARC policies unless this step is completed.

Step 5: Verify success

Verify that incoming mail is properly delivered. Once your MX record changes from step 1 have taken effect (usually in under 24 hours, but sometimes as long as 72 hours, depending on your DNS provider), send a test email message to a valid email address on the domain.

Outbound support for Google Workspace (Optional)

We recently added support for IP-based authentication for our outbound filtering service, which should allow Google Workspace to relay outbound emails through SpamHero, but it has not yet been tested:

  1. Go to Outbound > Outbound Settings.
  2. Under Smart host setup enable the Allow relaying from trusted IP addresses and ranges check box.
  3. Enter Google's IPs. See: Google IP address ranges for outbound mail servers
  4. Follow Google's instructions for Setting up an outbound mail gateway.

If the above instructions work for you or if you have any suggestions, please let us know.
