Can I temporarily redirect messages to an external email box while my mail server is down?

Yes, during a mail server outage, you can redirect your messages to an external email address (such as a Gmail address). Then, after your mail server is back online you can revert back to your normal configuration and use the Bulk redeliver feature to re-send all of the messages that failed to deliver during the time that your mail server was offline.

Redirecting your mail to an external email address

  1. In the control panel, go to Settings > Delivery Mail Host
  2. Record your current Mail host so that you can switch back to it later.
  3. Change the Mail host to the external Email address you want to deliver the mail to and save your changes.

Bulk re-deliver messages to your mail server

After your mail server is back online, you can re-deliver the messages that were routed to your mail server by using the Bulk re-deliver tool.

  1. From the control panel, go to Settings > Delivery Mail Host
  2. Change your Mail Host back to what it was before, click the Update mail host button
  3. Wait a few minutes to confirm that messages are delivering to your mail server.
  4. Go to the Quarantine+ > Clean mail area.
  5. Click on the Advanced search link to enter a Start date + End date range (based on the timeframe that your servers was offline).
  6. Click on the Bulk redeliver button.

The bulk-redeliver process can sometimes take a while. To check the progress, go to Tools > Bulk Redliver Status
